She’s the kind of girl who narrates her own life like she’s the protagonist of a novel, which makes it all the more delicious watching her talk herself, step by step, into becoming the kind of girl she never thought she’d be.
Her instructor, Nigel Pearce, is forty-three, unremarkable, and very, very good at his job, in more ways than the DVSA examines. He doesn’t coerce. He doesn’t need to. He simply offers, and waits, patient as a red light, for a desperate girl to arrive at the idea herself.
This is age gap erotica at its most quietly filthy: a twenty-two-year gap, an authority dynamic that never once needs to raise its voice, and a slow, deliberate corruption that happens almost entirely in Tabby’s own head, right up until it’s happening in the back seat of a tired Vauxhall Corsa.
If you like your taboo fiction to escalate properly, this one does. A hand on a knee in a residential street. A mouth put to use over a gearstick. A solo performance in a National Trust car park with a stranger’s dog nosing an overflowing bin twenty feet away. There’s breeding talk. There’s degradation, delivered so flatly it barely sounds like degradation until you notice what it’s done to you. There’s a man twice her age who never once raises his voice, never once sounds excited, and somehow that’s the hottest thing in the whole book.
Written, as ever, from the female gaze but firmly for male readers who want to watch a good girl lose every single inhibition she started the day with, this is a stand-alone, one-sitting read, roughly sixteen and a half thousand words, built for exactly the length of time it takes to finish a cup of tea and feel considerably less innocent than when you started it.
Tabby passes her test, for what it’s worth. That was never really the point, and by the last page, neither is she pretending otherwise.
